Seattle & Tashkent – FIFTY YEARS OF A REMARKABLE FRIENDSHIP 1973-2023 is a 300-page, 8.5×11 book that chronicles the extraordinary partnership that formed in 1973 between the cities of Seattle, Washington, USA, and Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and that constituted the first US-USSR sister-city affiliation.

This engaging book, written by former STSCA President Dan Peterson, is packed with pictures and is based on archival materials and numerous interviews with the remarkable people who formed and promoted the sister-city relationship. By chronicling the history of our organization, this book aims to inspire the next generation to continue the important work of promoting citizen diplomacy and people-to-people exchanges and of sharing friendship between our two nations.

STSCA is participating in GiveBIG, a fundraising campaign that takes place this year on May 2-3 and that is powered by 501 Commons to support non-profit organizations in Washington state.

In recognition of STSCA’s 50th anniversary, we have set a goal of $5,000 for our 2023 GiveBIG campaign. These funds will allow us to host delegates from Tashkent to Seattle, complete a book documenting the many accomplishments during the first 50 years of the sister-city relationship, and take on other special projects honoring our 50th anniversary.

We were the first US/USSR sister city established and served as the flagship city and model for dozens of subsequent US/USSR affiliations that formed throughout the U.S. during the glasnost era. We are creating a documentary and a book to mark the milestone next year of our extraordinary 50-year friendship and collaboration with Tashkent!

COVID-19 POLICY

We will follow all Washington state and King County COVID-19 protocols. Currently, these include mask and vaccination requirements.

Mask requirement

Everyone attending Navruz must wear a mask at all times except when performing or actively eating or drinking.

Vaccination requirement

To be allowed to enter, everyone 12 and over must show proof of full vaccination (two or more shots) against COVID-19.
